June 24-25 class days + #10 pond

Today and the previous day, June 24th-25th, we had class from 9am-12pm; during our classes, we mostly studied fish identification using quizzes on the REEF website and pictures from the prior year, showing us several realistic examples of the fish we are going to see in Bermuda. We also went over logistics for snorkeling and the trip, as well as our student leaders giving presentations on their independent study topics.

On the 24th, after the class and after a quick lunch break, we visited #10 pond for our practice dive. After having class for 4 hours in the morning, being outside in the warm sun was refreshing; the water was a little chilly, but once you were fully submerged, you adjusted quickly. There were minimal issues when it came to our diving gear, and the majority of us had snorkeled prior, so there wasn’t a steep learning curve. Once we were in the water, we swam around the edge of the lake about 100 feet. We saw several large schools of perch, some smaller schools of sunfish, and a few independent smallmouth bass that were large in size. Since everything went well, Brian decided it was okay to only dive on the one day.

Our dive has gotten us all excited for Bermuda, and the cold water has made the anticipation for the warm weather even higher! Since today is our last class, the next time we see each other will be at the airport on June 5th at 4 am, when we are leaving for the trip!
